two sites with good news

Discussion Actions

There’s enough bad news around so I thought I would share these in case people haven’t seen them.

1. BioLogos Foundation
http://biologos.org/

TGFE and its marriage of science and religion have a new ally in this web site.

From the About Us link:
Dr. Francis Collins established The BioLogos Foundation to address the escalating culture war between science and faith in the United States. On one end of the spectrum, “new atheists” argue that science removes the need for God. On the other end, religious fundamentalists argue that the Bible requires us to reject much of modern science. Many people – including scientists and believers in God – do not find these extreme options attractive.

BioLogos represents the harmony of science and faith. …

2. Gapminder displays statistical data in a unique visual way by graphing it over time.

http://www.gapminder.org/videos/

“200 years that changed the world” is 4.5 minutes and shows how life expectancy and income have risen globally since 1809.

“Debunking myths about the “third world” “ is 20 minutes and includes:
—- Family size and life expectancy since 1962
—- Income distribution, 1970 to 2000
—- Child Survival and GDP per capita, 1960 to 2003

You can also customize the animated graphs by clicking on Gapminder World and selecting which data themes and countries to compare.

    Carl,
Thank you for the new links. I hope that the culture war between science and faith will end soon with sites like TGFE and other new links.

My Internet research during this past week has revealed a site defending evolution “against antievolution propaganda” instead of presenting empirical data.

Charles, you’re welcome. (Responding nearly six weeks later, sorry! I’ve just been trying to teach some basic manners to our little one- I could use some myself).

    Another interesting site I found-

    http://www.johnkyrk.com/evolution.html

It’s an impressively designed web site which displays evolution with an interactive slider that, when you get to the end of an era, expands into the next evolutionary era.
